It’s a Mystery: Fallen, by Karin Slaughter

Fallen (Georgia, #3)

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Faith Mitchell, agent with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, is late as usual picking up her baby daughter at her mother’s house. The bloody mayhem that greets her as she walks in the door is unimaginable. Her mom is missing, and now a crew of gang-bangers is threatening Faith’s entire family. Her partner in the police, Will Trent, is fighting private demons of his own, but is determined to find Faith’s mother before it’s too late. With the help of his boss,Deputy Director Amanda Wagner, and ER physician Sara Linton, Will scours the hoods and the prisons in his search for the facts.

Fallen is brimming with malice, violence, and suspense, but author Slaughter softens things a bit with a touch of romance. Along the way, the protagonists are forced to face up to a boatload of personal issues, but hey, they’re all tough enough to do what needs doing. Entertaining, though intense at times.
